What is Bahrain's rent law? Law No. 27 of 2014 explained

Law No. 27 of 2014 - the Property Rent Law - has governed leases across the Kingdom since February 2015. It requires written, registered contracts, caps rent increases and deposits, protects residential tenants from eviction for three years, and created the Rent Disputes Committee.

In one law, Bahrain answered the questions that generate most landlord-tenant friction anywhere: how fast can rent rise (5% residential, 7% commercial, every two years, five times maximum), how much cash can be demanded upfront (one month deposit, three months advance), and when can a tenancy actually be ended (eight listed grounds).

The whole machine runs on registration. Register within one month - landlord pays, tenant can self-register if he refuses - and every protection becomes enforceable before the Committee. Skip it, and the contract is effectively outside the law.
