What if my landlord refuses to register the tenancy contract in Bahrain?

You can register it yourself and deduct the fee from the rent. Law No. 27 of 2014 puts the registration duty on the landlord - and if he refuses, the tenant may inform him by registered letter that the agreement has been registered and deduct the fee from the rent.

This is one of the most elegant little rules in the law: it removes the landlord's ability to keep a lease off the books, because the tenant can always fix it unilaterally and at the landlord's expense.

Since unregistered contracts cannot be brought before the Rent Disputes Committee, doing this protects every other right on this page - the rent caps, the eviction protection, the deposit limits.
