Does a tenancy contract have to be registered in Bahrain?

Yes. Every lease and any amendment must be registered with the Lease Agreement Registration Office within one month of issue. Residential registration costs between BD 1 and BD 5, and the fee is borne by the landlord.

Registration is not paperwork for its own sake - it is your access to justice. The Rent Disputes Committee will not accept cases arising from unregistered lease agreements, so an unregistered contract leaves both sides without the law's protections.

The process runs through Bahrain's government portal and the fee is trivial: BD 1-5 for residential leases, BD 5-10 for commercial ones.
