Bahrain Property Law · Tenancy
Not easily. A residential tenant generally cannot be required to vacate during the first three years of the tenancy. Outside specific legal grounds - like two consecutive months of unpaid rent or unauthorised subletting - the landlord cannot simply take the property back.
The three-year protection in Law 27 of 2014 is the cornerstone of tenant security in Bahrain. A landlord who wants the property back for no listed reason must wait, whatever the contract renewal date says.
The listed exceptions are specific and provable: non-payment, subletting without written consent, overcrowding beyond the permitted number of occupants, improper or unsafe use, a 25-year-old building the landlord will rebuild, the landlord needing it as his own residence, or the tenant having vacated the property for a year.
